Intestacy Rules for Adopted Children
If you die without leaving a will, your assets will pass to relatives under the Intestacy Rules.
A common question we are frequently asked is what happens in the case of an adopted person ? well the answer is relatively straightforward. If you are adopted then it is your adopted family which takes priority over your blood line under the Intetsacy Rules. This means that you would inherit any estate from your adopted parents and no your blood parents.
Your adoption certificate is therefore very important to establish any entitlement.
